Silic go Green Promise
Silic Logistics have invested heavily in reducing the carbon footprint of our company, by looking to any direct carbon saving measures we can employ, out two main areas of focus have been:
Road to Rail – Diesel has a carbon content of 696-23 grams per litre.
Rail transport creates 75% less carbon emissions than Road Transport per ton / kilometre. Silic have invested in a multi-million Rand facility 60km’s from the Durban port, directly placed on the main North-South Corridor, purpose built for taking as much cargo off the congested input /output road (Bayhead Rd), of Africa’s busiest container terminal, and onto rail. The belief is that why have 40 tri-axle (semi’s), each pulling one TEU, when you could have 1 dedicated locomotive pulling 40 TEU’s, with minimal risk of missing stacks.
Less Paper Consumption – 1mt of paper requires 98mt of various input resources!
Designing our own software to minimise paper use for our clients and suppliers, our software allows us to forward confirmations and bookings directly to our suppliers and clients, and then for our clients to view their Invoice Pack which includes their pod’s via a secure web server, rather than sending hard copies to our clients via courier, each job is itemised in the month invoiced and allows our clients to choose whether or not they would like it printed.
